SUMMARY:Twist Out Cancer Art Journal Club Twistshop Series Session 1: Exploring Amazement of Mycelium
DESCRIPTION:Twist Out Cancer Art Journal Club Twistshop Series \nSession 1: Exploring Amazement of Mycelium \nWhen : Thursday\, Jan 29\, 2026 06:30 PM CST / 7:30 EST \nAbout this new series: Join Twist Out Cancer community and art therapist and facilitator\, Mignon Dupepe for a new Twistshop Art Journal Club series starting in 2026! This series is inspired by author\, Suleika Jaouad’s book The Book of Alchemy. We will use art making\, journaling\, and discussion to stir our creativity and connect around themes shared in her book.  Suleika offers storytelling\, writing prompts\, and journaling for self- discovery and to spark imagination.  \nOur Twistshop series will provide a “twist” to this idea by including an art making component. The first Art Journal Club will highlight The Book of Alchemy’s storyteller\, Fernando Murillo and his amazement of mycelium\, the underground fungal network that sustains and enhances life. He proposes that we are not alone but we are mycelium\, connected\, a network that creates and sustains life and growth.  We will explore this idea using art processes\, zine making\, journaling and discussion. No art or journaling experience required\, just an interest in creating and connecting as a community. \nSupplies to be considered: \n8×11 white copy paper or art paper \nScissors \nGlue stick \nColorful marker/pens/oil pastels \nCollage papers/magazines \nRegister in advance for this meeting: \nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email with zoom link! \nA suggested donation of $10-25  is recommended to cover program fees and art therapist facilitation.  \nDonate here!

SUMMARY:"Dimensions" by Kara Thomas
DESCRIPTION:“Dimensions: a bold fusion of the tangible and the intangible\, ceramics\, fine-art\, tech\, and unique perspective. A multi-dimensional exhibit by Kara Thomas in collaboration with CultureVerse”  \nFrom the artist\, Kara Thomas: \n“Dimensions” speaks to my creative process and is a reference to the geometric terms two dimensional and three dimensional. When creating my artwork I start with a flat shape and visualize different ways that shape can be created as a 3D form. These shapes can range from a simple triangle to the complex hidden geometry of flowers. In my daily life I am constantly observing repeat patterns in architecture and nature which influence how I interpret these shapes into ceramic objects. I also use pattern and repetition to evoke a feeling of expansiveness that is reminiscent of looking up at the northern Michigan night sky as a little girl. \n The pieces in this show are a reference to the metaphysical. Practicing meditation has opened up my ability to see past the physical realm and tap into a deeper connection to things unseen. To me\, the mind is a dimension of its own. Additionally\, the work that I have created for this show is derived from spiritual experiences from my travels to Jordan\, yoga teacher training\, and hiking through the redwood trees in California.  \n Collaborating with CultureVerse has given me the opportunity to expand into the virtual dimension. The CultureVerse team has enabled me to create a virtual art world that is as far away from the traditional gallery setting as possible. With my artwork and the talents of CultureVerse we were able to create a cosmic interactive viewing experience. Whether it’s from a phone\, or through VR goggles\, this technology goes beyond a still photo and allows people to view a 3D digital version of my artwork that is as close as it gets to reality. \n———————————————————————————————————————- \nArtist and Twist out Cancer board member\, Kara Thomas\, has been working with clay for the past 14 years. Shortly after completing her undergraduate degree from College for Creative Studies in 2013\, she began her career working as an automotive sculptor for General Motors. She is currently creating artwork in her pottery studio located in a refurbished bank in Northwest Detroit. \nInspiration for Kara’s work stems from historic alchemical imagery. Using the language and symbolism of alchemy to explore the world has allowed for her to discover meaning in nature. Drawing off a source that is beyond her own existence and what she considers to be cosmic\, Kara’s artwork is representative of visions and feelings that come to her during various forms of meditation. These visions then often take the form of functional ceramic objects\, sculpture\, and tessellating patterns. \nKara looks for parallels between nature transitions and human experience. The imagery on her highly embellished surfaces draws from these parallels. In her work\, the evolving female figure can be seen alongside depictions of seasonal shifts and phases of the moon. Embracing change and feeling a universal wholeness\, Kara’s work aspires to expand perspectives and uses worldly designs to create a sense of unity. \nWebsite: https://karamariethomas.com/  \nInstagram:  https://www.instagram.com/kara.thomas.art  \nLinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/kara-thomas-7750761a4  \nComponents of this exhibition include: \n\nIn Person Gallery Exhibition & Reception – Ann Arbor\, October 14\, 2022 6:00 – 10:00 pm \n\nOctober 14\, 2022 – November 20\, 2022\nHours: \n\nThursday 4 pm – 8 pm\nFriday 4 pm – 8 pm\nSaturday 12 pm – 8 pm\nSunday 12 pm – 4 pm\n\n\n“Dimensions” immersive digital gallery in collaboration with Saganworks \nVR and AR Experiences\n\n\n\nWhere? \nThe virtual and in person experiences launch October 14\, 2022 during a gallery reception at CultureVerse Gallery at 309 S.
