Health And Wellness

TOC recognizes that there are a unique set of physical and emotional side effects during and after cancer treatment. Since 2011, TOC has partnered with a variety of health and wellness programs to raise awareness about these issues and aid in the recovery of individuals touched by cancer.

Initiatives

Health and Wellness initiatives include Kick Out Cancer, Yoga For a Cause, and annual participation in the Lurie Cancer Center’s Annual Cancer Survivors Celebration, Walk and 5k. Past partnerships have included Equinox, Tejas Yoga, The Yoga Center, Pure Barre, Barry’s Bootcamp, The Grant Building, the JCC Cherry Hill, and Shred 415. Lisa Kawalec is a mindfulness coach who has been helping others explore meditation for the last five years. She has been on the caregiving team for many family and friends who have experienced cancer. She is a long-time volunteer at Camp Quality Illinois, a summer camp that strives to let kids with cancer be kids.

Ruth Mayer is a rabbi and clinical psychologist who is passionate about helping people find pathways to greater physical, emotional and spiritual heath. Ruth is a long time meditator who teaches and leads meditation groups. She has personally experienced the life changing power of meditation to help navigate the challenges of chronic disease.

Kick Out Cancer

Kick Out Cancer is an annual charity soccer match hosted by Minos Vlamakis and Noreen Karadsheh, head coach and head trainer of the Raiders FC.
In May 2011, Noreen was diagnosed with Stage IIB Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
