This group will introduce easy and fun ways to engage in non-clinical art therapy and will promote relaxation\, connection\, and camaraderie! \nThe Dragonfly Foundation is a 501c3 that supports pediatric cancer patients and their families at time of diagnosis\, throughout treatment\, and beyond. DESCRIPTION:The Mindful Grieving & Movement Series \nWhen: Weekly Tuesday Mornings from April 4th- May 9th 7:30-9:00AM CST/ 8:30-10:00AM EST \nDescription: The Mindful Grieving & Movement Program is a closed\, 6-week group that offers a safe\, accepting space for people going through cancer-specific loss to express their grief and have their experience witnessed by others in a facilitated environment. This program is unique in its body-centered approach to grief work\, and offers both tools to manage grief and space to feel and process it while being seen and heard by others who have had similar experiences. The group includes meditation\, journaling\, group sharing and gentle yoga. Each group meets for 90 minutes. \nSome of the themes that are explored include presence and body awareness\, unconditional love and acceptance\, how grief can serve as a teacher in our lives\, and the evolution of our identity when going through a loss. This program is ideal for people looking to connect with others\, connect to their bodies\, and connect to themselves in a compassionate and engaging way. No previous yoga experience is necessary. \n*This group welcomes survivors\, previvors\, caregivers\, patients\, healthcare workers\, NPO workers\, and loved ones.  \nIf you would like to participate\, please register here. Space is limited to eight participants. \nPlease make your payment here. $125 per person for 6 sessions. *Sliding scale available upon request.* \nFacilitator bio: Teresa Sullivan is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the Chicagoland area specializing in grief\, loss\, illness\, and life transitions. Her role is to help people work through their experiences\, offer new ways of looking at things and skills to cope with them\, and ultimately\, to help them uncover what it means to move into the future in a meaningful way. Teresa additionally holds a Masters in Theology & Ministry\, is Certified in Thanatology and EMDR Therapy\, and is a Registered Yoga Teacher. At Project Joy we say\, if you can spill milk you can make a beautiful piece of art\, and while we don’t use milk our process does involve spilling color. DESCRIPTION:December 9\, 2021 6:30 pm central time\nFacilitated by Mignon Dupepe and Noah Plotkin\n\nSelf-soothing through the senses\nSelf-soothing is doing things to calm and relax yourself through your five senses. Join Brushes with Cancer participants/friends\, collaborators\, and creators\, Noah Plotkin and Mignon Dupepe for an evening of soothing practices\, creative exploration\, and connection. Using rhythm making and art processes\, we will explore a deeper understanding of managing stress and supporting wellness by intentionally engaging in soothing enjoyable sensory experiences. No music or artistic skills required to participate-just an interest in using art materials and music for expression\, growth\, and relaxation.\n\nMaterials to be considered for this workshop include: \n\nWatercolor or thick art paper-3 pieces-\nWatercolor paints\nWater/ watercolor brush/paper towels\nColorful markers-\nPermanent black marker-thin if possible\nColorful pens\nScissors\nGlue stick\n\nNoah will be providing soothing melodies on an instrument called a HandPan along with various percussion items. \nNoah Plotkin’s Life Rhythms was founded in 2013 to facilitate health and wellness in diverse populations through the power of rhythmic music. Programs are designed to express the creative spirit\, vent stress and re-establish a healthy and beneficial life rhythm. \nThroughout his life Noah has recognized the power of music to unite people of all ages and backgrounds to build strong and sustainable communities.
