Twist on Cancer: Cancer changed me in ways I never expected. I learned that strength isn’t about being fearless — it’s about facing each day, even the hardest ones, with honesty and hope. I found new gratitude in small, ordinary moments, and I learned to lean on others instead of trying to carry everything alone.
What I want people to know is this: cancer does not take away who you are. It may alter your path, but it can also deepen your love, your perspective, and your connection to life.

Artist Statement: This painting honors Lynne Alston—a ten-year breast cancer survivor whose journey began with an embrace from a close friend. During that hug, a shift occurred that revealed a hidden lump, setting her on the path to diagnosis, treatment, and survival.
From that experience, Lynne founded A Hug Saved My Life®, transforming one simple moment into a movement of mentorship and advocacy. She uplifts all women—especially African American women—whose voices are too often overlooked or minimized in medical spaces, while continuing to encourage them to trust themselves, seek answers, find healing, and connect with professionals who truly listen and care.
The blue woman is encompassed by flowing currents of her guiding light, embodying the trust that she would emerge from this experience alive. Within her calmness lies strength, a quiet resilience that carries her forward. The ridges and triangles symbolize how a catalyst as natural as an embrace from a close friend can create resonance—echoes of guidance, resilience, and awareness that expand outward into others’ lives.
Blue Resonance is both a tribute to Lynne’s story and a reflection of the wider impact she continues to make: one voice, one embrace, reverberating into the flow of change and awareness.
