Twist on Cancer: Thank you, Christina, for your generous listening and beautiful art. Sharing the story of my beloved friendship with Eda has meant so much to me. My love story with Eda was built over time-the closeness that grows as you age alongside someone, showing up for each other through it all: the big, pink, fluffy parts of life, the ordinary times, the quiet joys, and the inevitable sorrows. For years, we kept a shared gratitude journal, witnessing each other’s days and finding meaning in the smallest moments. Having our story witnessed and expressed through art has been such a blessing. The most enduring gift of Eda’s friendship is my deep understanding that love does not have to be earned. In Eda’s presence, I felt truly loved for being myself, and through her love, I continue to become more fully myself.

Artist Statement: Meeting Christine has changed my life entirely and I am so grateful I was able to meet Eda, her best friend of many decades, through her. The manner she speaks about Eda and their beautiful relationship brought me to tears each time we connected. This piece is dedicated to Eda, her love and deep passion for art, flowers, her family, her sacred circle and her community. “Gratitude is getting through something with the support of someone you love.”
