Artist Statement: “Here Comes The Sun” reflects my interpretation of Dawn’s journey with systemic mastocytosis within the broader context of her life. The painting on the guitar juxtaposes Dawn’s most serene sanctuary, the water, with the painful realities of her illness, which are represented on the sides of the instrument. Dawn’s vibrance is the true essence of this piece. Though she battles the severe physical tolls of SM, her dynamic, life-loving spirit shines through. Dawn is a natural caretaker and supports the people and the world around her. Whether she is creating art, singing or spending time with family, her resilience is undeniable. While systemic mastocytosis is a devastating illness, it will never dim Dawn’s radiant light.
