Artist Statement: Lisa Wagner was my inspiration for this art piece.
Lisa shared her journey with cancer, and this is what transpired. I saw incredible love of family, determination, strong will, and setting boundaries to cancer. Lisa explained that she would take control of how she would lose her or shave it off. That spoke volumes of determination and a will to live, so I thought of a suitcase. I pictured Lisa with a briefcase and doing things her way.
Lisa's daughter and her friends, who were in high school and getting ready for prom, decided to surprise Lisa. They gathered and decided to make a wig out of their long hair. Young women being there for Lisa and supporting her in such a way just left me speechless and warmed my heart. So, I had to honor all of them in the art piece. Thank you, Lisa, for sharing your journey with me. I am humbled and honored to have been matched with you.
