Twist Out Cancer and Dreame Collaborate to Help People Honor Those Lost

Twist Out Cancer, an international non-profit charitable organization that provides psychosocial support to individuals touched by cancer through creative arts programming, and Dreame, an international collective of artists, dreamers, and co-creators, announced today a collaboration that can help people pay tribute to, and remember loved ones who are no longer physically with us.  The collaboration will kick-off on Thursday, November 18 at noon EST with The Remembering, which is a free virtual event designed to help participants remember and honor anyone that they have lost.  Dreame is also offering a custom made art piece, “In My Dreams, I Remember,” which is an opportunity to preserve the legacy, relationship, and connection with a loved one through a unique piece of art to honor their memory.

“I am grateful to have met so many creative people through the ROI Community, including Sharonna Karni Cohen of Dreame.  We both have a shared passion of using the creative arts as a way to express our innermost feelings, which can be used in times of grief to remember those we have lost,” said Jenna Benn Shersher, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Twist Out Cancer.  “With The Remembering, we are creating an event in which participants can seek insights and lessons from the community regarding healing and the evolution of grief.”

The Remembering is a virtual event, in which participants can explore spiritual experiences for grief that can lead to self-reflection and healing.  They will also hear enlightening insights based on personal stories; take part in musical and meditative moments; and will be able to participate in a Twistshop (art therapy session) focused on healing.  The virtual event is free to attend, and guests can sign up here.

Speakers include:

  • Ethan Zohn, Survivor Africa Winner, a two-time Cancer Survivor, ROI
  • Jenna Benn Shersher, the Founder and CEO of Twist Out Cancer, ROI
  • Sharonna Karni Cohen, the founder and CEO of Dreame, ROI
  • Rabbi Lizzi Heydemann, Founder and CEO of Mishkan, ROI
  • Jacqueline Carmody, a Licensed Clinical Art Therapist and Twist Out Cancer Board Member

Participants in the Twistshop will have the opportunity to engage in an art therapy experience through therapeutic art making.  They will explore how creating a small garden in a terrarium can be a way to cope, honor, or explore our relationship with grief.  The goal of this activity is to gain a sense of serenity with a loss, even if temporarily.  More information on the Twistshop, including a list of needed supplies, is available here.

“At times, words cannot adequately describe the loss of someone dear to us.  Instead, we can retain cherished moments and memories through photographs, videos, music, jewelry, and recipes, which are all unique ways to help us overcome grief,” said Sharona Karni Cohen, the co-founder and CEO of Dreame.  “These memories can all be part of a way to honor people we have loved through an original work of art that can preserve the legacy, the relationship, and the connection – both past, present, and future – with a loved one.”

Through “In My Dreams, I Remember,” dreamers can create a custom piece of art, which includes choosing style and colors, uploading photos, and most importantly – sharing their memories of someone they lost.  An artist will take this information and create a tableau of recollections, dreams, and memories to create a unique painting for them that will be framed and shipped to their home within two weeks of placing the order.  The cost is $150, and half of all proceeds will be donated to Twist Out Cancer.  You can place your order here.
