Survivor
Twist on Cancer: Cancer gives you time. Time you never knew you had. It opens up your eyes to time you waste and helps you find time for the things you always said you never had time for. When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer, I thought cancer stole time from me because I figured my life would be cut short. In the end, none of us know how much time we have and no one is guaranteed tomorrow. Cancer woke me up to the fact that the most important time I have is each second I get to live today.

Artist Statement: : “Clarity” pulls from the mental experience of my inspiration’s survivor story. Her recollection on how the mental aspect of cancer affected her really stuck with me. She shared how cancer is always treated aggressively in the physical yet passively in the mental. Dragonflies became a symbol of calming assurance amidst her fears and frustrations. Her concept of Time went from being an abundance to a scarcity, pushing her to live fuller and deeper than she had before.
