Twist on Cancer: My experience with Twist on Cancer, especially with Brushes with Cancer, was amazing! My artist is a delightful person with whom I felt free to be openly autistic and ADHD while talking about my past challenges and my current one.I am grateful to have been accepted in this program because it gave me the opportunity to freely and openly share about cancer.

Artist Statement: This piece weaves together the themes of friendship, healing, and resilience. In partnership with my inspiration, who is navigating the early stages of her cancer journey, this work reflects our shared bond, built on laughter, hope, and the beauty of small joys. The title draws upon two influences: First, La Vie en Rose is a nod to our mutual love of Paris, where we both lived, and the iconic Edith Piaf, whose music found beauty in hardship. The second part, La Vie est Faite de Petits Bonheurs (life is made of small joys), echoes the essence of our conversations, which focused on the fleeting yet profound pleasures in life, even during times of uncertainty. The piece itself blends painting with digital weaving, creating a meaningful woven piece that is both artistic and practical. I envisioned this piece as something my inspiration could carry with her, offering comfort during her journey, whether at appointments or resting at home. Embedded within the design are personal symbols: a French teacher, her beloved cat, a Canadian flag, and a helicopter that appeared in my dream that is such a whimsical element that resulted in many shared moments of laughter. Additionally, I was inspired to write the poem that appears on the painting stating, “Sous la douce étoffe du jour, nous tissons espoir et l’amitié. Tu n’es jamais seule”. These words capture the spirit of our connection, offering hope, solace, and the reminder that she is never alone. I hope this blanket brings her comfort and joy.
