Twist on Cancer: Cancer is serious and scary. It threatens your very being. Twist Out Cancer showed me that I was not alone. It allowed me to see others and how others cope. I participated in guided art activities online. Those nourished my soul and heart. Brushes with Cancer offered me a unique and remarkable connection with a very special person, Maggie, who created art based on my story. The connection with Maggie made me see my journey and appreciate what happened.

Artist Statement: This is my second year with Brushes with Cancer, and as an Artist, it is one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever come across. It's an honor getting to know my inspiration, Martha. She represents strength, determination, and beauty. Her spirit is something to admire and be completely inspired by. Martha and I connected and a beautiful friendship was born. I wanted to paint something that represented her determination and will to live. So, I painted this golden image of a Superwoman stance, just like doctors do before going into surgery and coming out of it knowing that they had a successful one. The peacock feathers represent coming out of darkness and into the light. I wanted to also include Senor Frida, Martha's adorable and loving cat. Animals offer unconditional love and companionship. I included his silhouette in the painting, along with Lake Shore Drive in Chicago where Martha ran her 5K, 10K, and marathon races. BRAVO, Martha!!! Much love and blessings always.
