Twist on Cancer: Watching a parent battle cancer is not easy. I’ve faced many internal and external challenges seeing my mom battle multiple myeloma but it also taught me so many important lessons.

Artist Statement: This painting portrays Norman, a caregiver navigating responsibility across distance. While his mother undergoes cancer treatment in California, he remains in Chicago, where his work also involves supporting others facing similar diagnoses. The separation between place and duty becomes a sustained, private weight. Set within a winter landscape he finds grounding, Norman stands beside a curving road that extends beyond view. The road reflects the ongoing nature of caregiving—marked by endurance rather than resolution. Cold, muted tones define the present moment, while a restrained warmth along the horizon suggests direction without promise. The title, Not Yet Spring, speaks to this in-between state: a season of persistence, where care continues despite uncertainty, and belief is carried forward without assurance of outcome.
