Twist on Cancer: Being diagnosed with cancer three years ago definitely turned my world upside down. I knew that my life was about to change but I had no idea what that would look like. There were some hard times but there were some good times as well.
Throughout my cancer journey, I have come to treasure the time that I spend doing the things that make me truly happy – creating artwork, volunteering, fishing and enjoying nature. I am so blessed to be partnered with my artist, Evan Condron. We have so much in common, like working with people with disabilities and our taste in music. We connected immediately and have formed a great friendship. So, my plans for the future are to “keep on keeping on” and enjoy the things that make me happy!!!

Artist Statement:
When I decided to sign up for Brushes with Cancer I was apprehensive, not sure of what to expect. After meeting Jamie for the first time I immediately felt at ease, like I was talking to someone I have known for years. Jamie is a kind, patient, humorous, courageous, and extremely generous person. Jamie’s journey, and Jamie as a person, are so multifaceted - every stage has been made up of so many different pieces both dark and light. In our conversations, Jamie demonstrated how powerful community and conversation can be.

Jamie and I connected on so many things but when I saw her excitement for the artwork she makes, I decided one of the best ways I could get to know her better is by using some of the artmaking processes that bring her joy, like diamond art. I thought of the exchange between light and dark, and worked to incorporate the activities, places, and ideas that make up Jamie’s experiences.
