Brushes with Cancer Fall 2024
October 27, 2024 from 3-7pm EST
Lilah Fishtown, 1601 N Front St, Philadelphia, PA 19122
The Program

Brushes with Cancer is a program of Twist Out Cancer that strategically matches artists with individuals touched by cancer (inspirations). Over a period of 6 months, the artist and inspirations work together to build a relationship built on mutual understanding and trust. The artist creates a unique work of art that is reflective of the inspiration’s journey with cancer. The program culminates in a celebration of survivorship and hope, where the art is auctioned off with all proceeds benefiting the mission and work of Twist Out Cancer.

Our Keynote Speaker, Howard Aaron

Howard Aaron – World-class bench-press competitor, fitness coach, and cancer survivor

Howard Aaron, a renowned fitness coach, world-class bench-press competitor, and cancer survivor will share his unique insights and experiences, weaving a narrative of strength, perseverance, and the transformative power of the human spirit. His words are sure to resonate deeply with the audience, offering encouragement and motivation to those navigating the challenges of cancer.

Howard’s message is one he wants to spread far and wide.

“You don’t have to get strong to be healthy, but you have to be strong because you never know what’s around the corner.”

Our Emcee, Lu Ann Cahn

Lu Ann Cahn – Speaker, Author, and Dare Specialist

Lu Ann Cahn is the author of the inspirational memoir I Dare Me, an entertaining look back on a year that changed everything for her. The book grew out of a blog, “Year of Firsts,” which chronicled this veteran journalist, mother and survivor’s daily adventures as she pushed herself to try something new every single day to get her life “unstuck.” She was inspired by her daughter, Alexa, to go on this year-long adventure while working her full-time “day job” as an eight-time Emmy award-winning journalist with NBC10 News in Philadelphia.

Cahn’s journey eventually led to a major career change. In December 2014, she left her 40-year career in broadcast news to dare audiences across the country and help launch the next generation of communicators at Temple University. Cahn is currently the Director of Career Services for Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communication.

Entertainment, Tanqueray Hayward

Tanqueray Hayward

A celebrated female singer; a woman of outstanding talent in the world of opera, and by extension in theatre, cinema, and popular music. In Philadelphia, a city known for providing the world of music with knockout talent, another yet unforgettable legendary diva in the making is unquietly emerging. Tanqueray Hayward is exploding on the Philadelphia music scene and is claiming her seat at the highly coveted table.
Born in Philadelphia, music was calling Hayward’s name from a very early age. Getting her first taste for the musical spotlight, Hayward started singing in church. Like many legendary singers before her, most notably: Whitney Houston, Patti LaBelle, and Aretha Franklin, the church provides the basics for soul singers when learning breath control, tone and confidence.
After taking a leap of faith and resigning from a medical career, Hayward’s vocal potency landed the opportunity to record background vocals for pop star Pink and open for internationally-acclaimed gospel artist Marvin Sapp in Philadelphia.
Hayward has enjoyed the experience of performing to sold-out crowds at renowned music venues throughout Philadelphia. Hayward’s vocal ability and stage presence are potent for all who dare to experience it without a filter.
Winner of the President’s Choice Award for Indie Soul Café Radio in New York in November 2020, Winner of Soul Tracks “New Artist of the Year” in December 2020, and nominated for “Best International Artist” for UK’s Bright Star Awards in December 2020. Tanqueray’s debut album “Definition of the Woman” was released in March 2021.
